Am I a candidate for Invisalign treatment?
Most people are candidates for Invisalign treatment. We offer free orthodontic consultations and will let you know at your initial appointment if Invisalign is a good fit for you.
What is it?
The Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners that are used to align your teeth one stage at a time. If Dr. Skanchy determines that you are a good candidate for Invisalign tretament, the first step is to take an impression of your upper and lower teeth. Align Technology (Invisalign) will receive the models and develop a 3D model of your teeth using their 3D computer imaging technology. Dr. Skanchy will work with an Invisalign technician to come up with the best treatment plan for your specific case. After the treatment plan is finalized, Align Technology will create your aligners and ship them to our office.
Why would I want it?
Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat the foods you enjoy without worrying about breaking brackets or getting food caught in your braces. Maintaining good oral hygiene is easier as well, since the aligners can be removed to floss and brush your teeth. They are also more gentle on your cheeks and lips, since there are no metal braces or wires in your mouth. Another perk to Invisalign treatment is that the Invisalign software allows you to view your virtual treatment plan when you start your treatment to give you an idea of what your teeth will look like when your treatment is complete. How does it work?
Once you receive your aligners, Dr. Skanchy will explain how the aligners are to be worn. For most of our patients, each set of aligners is worn for 5 days, removing them only to brush, floss, eat, or drink. As you move stage to stage, your teeth will move little by little until they have straightened to their final position. You’ll visit us about every 8 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. The total treatment time for Invisalign is most often between 5-9 months, but will vary case to case. Once treatment is finished, you will receive retainers to make sure your new and beautiful smile stays put.
